Take Warning part 1
The artist and their interventions. They paint a world, they write a dialogue, sing a truth and sculpt a society. Many say that an artist has no place in politics and yet at the root of their creativity is a rebellion toward practicality. The artists objective is often to connect to themselves and to the world around them by what they are visually exposed to and how they feel in response. From protest music which can date back to many moons ago, paintings with hidden messages, novels, and films that can serve as warning signs for society to consider before it is too late. They are in tune with what is going on around them. It is an objective to serve those around them with the revealing of a truth and thus returning to them a sense of empathetic fulfillment.
Art is often created to comment on politics, sometimes subtly and sometimes blatantly. Since it is deeply ingrained in our culture, its message reflects the times we live in. In a metaphorical sense life and the world around us beats us down with deception and attempts to rob us of our identity and awareness, and an artist serves as a bridge between those around them and a revelation, not just of themselves but of the world they are apart of.
When one is constantly searching to understand the human condition, revelations can be quite liberating. This is why the musicians make their protests songs, why the poet or author writes about situations that are too uncomfortable for conversation, and why the painter paints what he sees as an injustice. It is done so with the hope that one might plant seeds of truth into others, leading them into a direction of a heightened awareness for when an artists liberates others with truth through their art, they are in turn liberating themselves. One should carefully consider advising the artist to stick to their art and avoid politics.
